MTBE
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether
Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) is a chemical added to gasoline to promote more complete combustion and reduce emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and organic compounds. MTBE mixes readily with gasoline and with water. MTBE has contaminated groundwater by leaking from underground storage tanks, pipelines and or spills. In New York State alone there were 2,727 MTBE spills documented in 2005, including 89 spills in Albany County, 44 in Rensselaer County, and 42 in Schenectady County. NEA has a residential and light commercial water-testing program for MTBE only. NEA has been working on the MTBE issue since 1991. Using approved EPA methodologies NEA can detect for MTBE by GC/PID hall (502.2) or by GC/MS. Please contact us if you would like to test water for MTBE. All samples must paid in full before analysis. Cash ,certified check or credit card via PayPal. Included in test kit:
