Northeast Analytical has provided analytical services to a diverse clientele including engineering consulting groups, major industries, small businesses, and academic research organizations. Some of the projects NEA has been involved with are listed below.
1. S.S Papadopolous and Associates Inc./National Park Service in the State of Tennessee:
The National Park Service in the state of Tennessee contracted S.S. Papadopolous and Associates Inc. (Environmental Consultants) to conduct a two year investigation on the impact of groundwater and runoff to the surface water quality in areas that were once heavily mined for coal. NEA was selected by S.S. Papadopolous to provide analytical testing services including total and dissolved metals, chloride, sulfate, total acidity, total and dissolved solids, alkalinity and other water quality parameters. Data generated by NEA was used by SSP&A in modeling efforts to understand the impact of the pollution on aquatic habitats.
2. General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center (GECRD)
The General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center sponsored a two year study titled: An Assessment of The Chronic Toxicity of Aroclor 1242, Aroclor 1254, and Aroclor 1260 Administered in Diet to Rats. Northeast Analytical provided congener specific PCB analysis on dissected rat tissues including the liver, brain, and mammary adipose. GECRD scientists used data generated by NEA in an effort to understand the long-term toxicity of PCBs in animals. Northeast Analytical, Inc. processed over 1,500 tissue samples over the course of 2 years. Methodologies were developed to handle small sample amounts from the rat tissues.
3. Stewarts Corporation
Stewart Shops consists of approximately 290 convenience stores throughout eastern New York which dispense gasoline and sell other specialty goods including groceries and ice cream. Northeast Analytical has maintained an on-going project (approx. 6 years) providing volatiles analysis for gasoline monitoring wells and volatile, semi-volatile, metals and Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) analysis on soil samples from underground storage tank removals.
4. Warren Equities, Inc.
Warren Equities consists of several hundred convenience/gas station stores throughout eastern New York. Northeast Analytical, Inc. has maintained an on-going project (approx 7 years) to provide volatiles analysis for gasoline monitoring wells as well as volatile, semi-volatile, metals and TCLP analysis on soil samples from UST removals.
5. State of Michigan
Northeast Analytical, Inc. has been involved in an ongoing program with the State of Michigan on the Kalamazoo River watershed to supply PCB congener as well as Aroclor based data. Northeast Analytical, Inc. has worked closely with the State for the past four years supplying PCB data on water, SPMD, fish, sediment, soil, vegetation, and caged minnows. During this time frame approximately 1,000 samples have been analyzed by our facility. Data for this program is delivered electronically and also supplied as “CLP-Like” data packages for validation. Data for this program is also delivered by CD-ROM a quarterly basis.
6. Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa)
Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) has had an ongoing PCB program with Northeast Analytical, Inc. since 1993. We have analyzed environmental samples from Alcoa’s industrial plant located in New York State. We have also provided PCB congener specific data to research being conducted at Alcoa’s Research and Development Center and also to Institutions utilized by Alcoa for their research programs. We have provided Aroclor data for Alcoa’s resident fish program as well as congener specific data on fish, sediment, SPMD, water, and soil samples. Data is delivered in both electronic and hard copy.
7. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
Northeast Analytical, Inc. has provided fish processing services to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for their ongoing Hudson River fish-monitoring program. This has included processing fish at the NYSDEC Hail Creek facility under the initial supervision of Mr. Ron Sloan. This program was transferred to our new laboratory facility in 1999. Fish are received whole and processed by filleting and homogenizing to a uniform consistency. The tissue is shipped to NYSDEC chosen contact labs for analysis. During the duration of the program Northeast Analytical has maintained cold (frozen) storage of the fish for each years sampling effort.
8. General Electric Corporate Environmental Program
Since 1989, Northeast Analytical, Inc. has provided PCB services for the General Electric Company. Most of the services provided have been associated with GE’s Hudson River programs. Northeast Analytical, Inc. has performed PCB congener specific analysis on a variety of matrices including, fish, SPMD, sediment, soil, water, and DNAPL. Data generated for the Hudson River routine water monitoring is provided to the State of New York and the EPA. This data is provided in electronic form and hard copy. The data validation packages are also produced as PDF files and supplied on CD-ROM to reduce paper volume when delivering to State and Federal agencies.
9. Resident Fish program on a large Southern Lake
Since 1996, Northeast Analytical, Inc. has supplied PCB Aroclor data to a major environmental firm studying PCB levels in resident fish. Northeast Analytical, Inc. processes and analyzes approximately 200 resident fish from a large lake located in a southern state.
10. NYSDEC Cumberland Bay, Lake Champlain PCB assessment
Northeast Analytical, Inc. provided data on fish, sediment, and PISCES samplers to a private engineering firm contacted by the State of New York to study PCB contamination and clean-up progress in Cumberland Bay, Lake Champlain. Several hundred samples were analyzed by the Green Bay PCB congener specific technique over the course of the program.
11. Onondaga Lake Program for NYSDEC
Northeast Analytical, Inc. was selected by a major engineering and consulting firm to provide Aroclor based PCB and Organochlorine Pesticide analysis on sediment samples from a program conducted for the NYSDEC on Onondaga Lake, NY. Northeast Analytical, Inc. analyzed approximately 600 sediment samples by SW-846 methodology. This data was supplied as “CLP-Like” data packages and also reported electronically as customized electronic data deliverables as Form 1’s from data packages and EDD’d from LIMs.
